The MSc Chemistry programme is designed to promote creativity and innovativeness in addressing the emerging societal needs and challenges. The programme bridges the existing gap of independent researchers that can be easily absorbed in the industry with the right skills. The two year programme exposes students to advanced areas of chemistry in the first year and research project in the second year, where students acquire hands-on experience using the state-of-the-art research equipment in the Department of Physical Sciences, i.e., FTIR-ATR, Electrochemical Analyzer for sensor development and µHPLC for environmental pollutions studies.

Staff teaching courses in this programme are competent and qualified to handle different areas of Chemistry being fully grounded in research as per their publications in peer-reviewed journals and various grant awards. The staff have also established collaborations with local, national and international researchers with active research collaborations with the University of Central Lancashire, UK, University of Trier, Germany and University of Illinois Chicago, USA among other institutions.

Graduates of MSc Chemistry from Machakos University have competitive advantage of being grounded with the requisite research skills for the industry through one on one mentorship by the faculty.
