Department of Physical Sciences hosts Prof. Dr. Sören Thiele-Bruhn from the University of Trier, Germany
The Department of Physical Sciences hosted Prof. Dr. Sören Thiele-Bruhn from the University of Trier, Germany from 3rd March 2024 to 11th March 2024. Prof. Soren is working with Prof. Zachary Getenga in a collaborative research project funded by Alexander Von Humboldt foundation under the Research group Linkages programme. The project “Enhanced Selective Immobilization of Sulfonamides in Manure onto Nano-Embedded Chemically Functionalized Hydrochars” seeks address the challenges faced with overuse of antibiotics. Prof. Thiele-Bruhn does research on Soil Science, Environmental Science and Agronomy. Main aspects of his current research are (i) the characterization of the composition, fractions and properties of organic matter in forest and agricultural soils as well as from organic fertilizers and (ii) the fate of organic xenobiotics, nutrients and toxic elements in soils and substrates.
During his visit, Prof. Thiele-Bruhn held two seminars on “Manure Affects the Fate of Pharmaceuticals in Soil” and “Crop Plant Diversification Changes Soil and Soil Microorganisms in a Viticultural System”
