SOAP & DETERGENT PRODUCTION UNIT


 The Soap and Detergent Production Unit, housed in the Department of Physical Sciences, School of Pure and Applied Sciences, focuses on production and value addition of Personal care Products and cleaning agents for general purpose and specific uses. It produces personal cleaning products like soapless detergents, hand cleaning gels and hair shampoos, cleaning agents for specific uses such as detergents for Utensils, floor, window, toilet cleaning agents (gels, liquids, solids, powders) and shampoos for washing motor vehicles. The Production Unit also formulates and produces water softeners, oils and laundry detergents to meet a variety of needs. In all the products produced, quality and value addition are key aspects that are considered. The unit works closely with Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and has its products certified.

The Production Unit is led by a competent team comprising of Dr. Stephen N. Mailu (Head of the Unit), Dr. Veronica Okello (Lead researcher of the Unit), Dr. Elizabeth Ndunda (Chairman of the Department of Physical Sciences and the Secretary of the Unit), Ms. Monica Kinyanjui (Technologist), Mr. Stephen Njenga (Technologist) and Mr. Abel Motonya (Technologist).
