BACHELOR SCIENCE IN ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY
Analytical chemistry is an area in chemistry that deals with chemical composition of matter through identification and quantification of compounds contained therein. It supports all major disciplines in chemistry including inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and physical chemistry finding useful application in the food and pharmaceuticals industry, agriculture, disease diagnosis, legal field among many other areas.
Bachelor of Science in Analytical Chemistry in Machakos University is a four year programme tailored to meet the 21st Century needs by exposing students to the emerging areas such as nanotechnology, information technology, computational chemistry, green chemistry and forensic science. Theory taught in class is supported by practical’s using the state-of-the art equipment in the Chemistry laboratories in addition to mandatory attachment in the industry and research project in the fourth year. The staff in the Department of Physical Sciences are qualified and competent to provide the necessary support to students and ensure that Machakos University churns out students with requisite knowledge and skills for the job market.
The programme is also tailored to establish a linkage between the academia and industry by ensuring all the students take up attachment as a unit at the end of their third year. Graduates of BSc in Analytical chemistry can work as: Quality assurance specialists and quality control experts in research laboratories and government agencies; Entrepreneurial analytical chemists in chemistry related businesses; researchers in research institutes; lecturers in academic institutes after advancing their education; among many other areas.
MINIMUM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Mean Grade of C+ in K.C.S.E
Main subjects: Chemistry and Mathematics with a mean grade of C+ (plus)
Other subjects: Physics and Biology with a minimum grade C+ (plus) in either of the subjects
